Presidents Welcome
On behalf of the San Remo Game Fishing Club (SRGFC), it is with great excitement that I warmly welcome and invite you to the captivating and ruggedly beautiful town of Kimbe - West New Britain Province.
We are so honoured and proud to be your new host for the 49th PNG GFA’s National Game Fishing Titles, to be held from Monday 30th March – Sunday 5th April 2026.
This is the very first time for Kimbe to join the exclusive GFA National Fishing Titles circuit, so we are well aware that it may be your first visit to our Province.. For others, it may have been a long time between trips.
I would like to assure you all that preparations are well underway by the SRGFC Team and indeed the entire Kimbe Township. We are all excited to be a part of this prestigious national event and we’re looking forward to your arrival and for the competition to begin. We want to deliver an unforgettable inaugural experience, not only for our visiting boats, anglers, skippers, and crew, but also to the families, friends, adventure enthusiasts, photographers, and keen PNG cultural travellers. This is our chance to show off WNB and we will have something planned for everyone!
However, I digress, back to the fishing. You name it, we have it! Extensive reef systems, numerous underwater sea mounts and ridges, uninhabited islands, shallow continental shelves, extreme deep drop-offs, river and creek mouths, 1000m+ contour lines, hundreds of majestic Frigate birds, Boobies, and many other ocean birds, bait schools galore, resident dolphin pods, and plenty of other surprise visitors that glide through the bay. There is no need for FADS here.
Of course, the most sought-after game fishing challenges also lurk in our deep blue waters, in the form of the three main Billfish species that are found in this part of the world. The Black Marlin are typically rare; however, the Blue Marlin and Indo-Pacific Sailfish are found in plague proportions during certain months of the year.
If the stars align for you, like they did for my team and I in 2022, you may have the chance to break our record. During 1.5 days of fishing, we had well over 50 strikes and tagged 22 Marlin! Fifteen Marlin tagged and released in a single day!
